Abstract

The article has the purpose to provide a short historical note on the Corpus Christi celebration, defining it as a religious ceremony arrogated by the Portuguese Monarchy in Modern Times. And, to highlight the relations between the ceremony and the Municipal Council, responsible for the space-temporal framing of the stat. Finally to search to indicate in which way the realization of the festivity and the participation of the different social corps contribute to the elaboration of the colonial towns Identity in the framework of the Maritime Portuguese Empire.
