Mutualism and philanthropy

Abstract

This essay is about mutualist and philanthropic societies ocurred in Juiz de Fora - Minas Gerais, from the late nineteenth to the first decades of the twentieth century. The article analyses the growth of the urban workers associativism and their relations to the origins of workers trade unions. Also focuses este the consolidation of the political elites status through philanthropic societies.
