Abstract

This article is based on the analysis made by Sheila Schvarzman and Sonia Cristina Uno of the film - O Descobrimento do Brasil (The discovery of Brazil) - and makes a critical study of its educational approach. The fact that it is "a civic and cultural release” as it is written on the poster legitimizes this proposal. At the same time, because of the ideological content and its authors' tacit agreement with the positivist official culture of the Estado Novo, the question of propaganda arises. This should be studied in relation with the topic of education. Here will be presented a coherent outline of analysis and directions of research to answer the questions made by the film about the relations between propaganda, education, history teaching and cinema.
