Abstract
Nowadays, films have gained a new legitimacy as privileged documents to "make history". The purpose of this article is to demonstrate the importance of Portuguese movies shown in Brazil in keeping the sociability and the nationalist feeling of Rio de Janeiro's Portuguese community. Consequently, the most successful fictional movies and documentaries become a way to discover which are the main characteristics of such nationalism and how these émigrés see their country of origin.
