Abstract

The article analyses the relationship between diseases and African knowledge in the city of Rio de Janeiro in the first half of the 19th century. Based on the analysis of traveler's reports, special attention is dedicated to the role of black surgeons and the majority of black population in the city of Rio de Janeiro to re-elaborate their Center-African cultural heritage.
