Abstract

Military organization from Portuguese America's sugar zone was characterized by a close relationship with colonial society, that is, the enrollment of free men and the provision of an official structure to society. This article examines somes aspects of bureaucratic recruitment in the sugar zone and the social origins of colonial military men.
