Public power and provisioning in an agricultural export economy: Juiz de Fora, 1853-1888

Abstract

The article studies the provisioning of Juiz de Fora with a focus on the actions of the municipal council. On the basis of administrative documents and municipal policies, the essay demonstrates the incentives fostered by the agricultural diversity of the region and the specific mesures taken to regularize internal provisioning of the city.
