Heritage and Social Memory: the formation of the policy for the preservation of historical goods in Brazil and the construction of the collective imagination

Abstract

The aim of the present article is to examine the rise of conservationist policy in Brazil and how ideas concerning the collective heritage have developed. The text attempts to focus on the way in which thinking has proceeded on the need for conservation, the basis on which social memory and a collective identity are constituted.
