Inside Out Minas: internal mining policy in the context of the First Republic

Abstract

This article analyzes the behavior of the political elites from Minas Gerais in the context of the First Republic. It searches to emphasizes the disputes between these elites relating them with national episodes that occurred in this period, in order to question the hypothesis that affirms that the political elites from Minas Gerais had their apex based mainly in an internal conciliation around party, the Mineiro Republican Party (PRM). The research was based in correspondences found in private archives of several members who belonged to the political elite of Minas, as well as in the press of the period.
