Abstract

The article deals with the diplomacy of the slave trade, the single most important and most contentious foreign polichy issue at the beginning of the Brazilian Empire. Great Britain's commitment to extirpate the "nefarious trade": pitted that country against Brazil's slave traders and landowners.
