Abstract

The text analyses an unusual aspect of Brazil's international relations, its diplomatic contacts with the socialist countries, mainly the Soviet Union. The aim is to show how anticommunism influenced Brazilian foreign policies towards the socialist countries, generating mistrust and constant diplomatic clashes. Brazil's diplomatic relations with the socialist bloc was unstable, particularly during the Estado Novo, when anticommunist values influenced sharply Brazilian government's policies.
