Abstract

In the narrative of the journey that he makes to the Levant in the early 1830s, Alphonse de Lamartine warns that there can not be in his notes but a little of interest to painters. This “written look” developed by the writer, through the description of natural and human landscapes, proposes the existence of a complementarity between East and West that might allow for a colonization project.
