Abstract

Francisco José de Oliveira Vianna is one of the most important Brazilian intellectuals of the first decades of the XX century, one of the pioneers of the sociological studies in Brazil andone of the main authors of the so called authoritarian thought. His trajectory as an author - which started in Revista do Brasil- reached the top with the inclusion of his titles in the Brasiliana Collection published by the Companhia Editora Nacional. This paper has the main goal of analysing the prefaces written by Vianna for the books of his own authorship published in this collection, between the years of 1931 and 1947, trying to identify his strategies to legitimate his ideas while self-constructing himself as an important author.
