Abstract

Sjögren´s syndrome is a chronic, auto-immune disease characterised by limphocytic infiltration of the lachrymal and salivary glands, causing xerostomia and oculardryness. Treatment with oral flaxseed-oil capsules may help improve lacrimal deficiency. A clinical case of Sjögren´s syndrome associated with rheumatoid arthritis, attended at Juiz de Fora´s Federal University´s Ophthalmology Departament is described. This patient with dry-eye symptoms was treated with oral flaxseed-oil capsules, reducing her surface ocular inflammation and alleviating the symptoms of  Keratoconjunctivis sicca. The aim of this case study is to encourage future long term studies to confirm the role of this therapy for Keratoconjunctivis sicca in Sjögren´s syndrome
