Abstract

The right to life, granted in the federal constitution, must be thoroughly respected, regardless of diverging opinions concerning its initial milestone. It must not be forgotten that life is the greatest good we have. Because scientific breakthroughs have promised to meet long-nurtured treatment expectations, it is only fair that embryonic research becomes the subject of serious legislation. Yet, it cannot be denied that such practices suffer influence from conflicting beliefs and platforms. Being an innovation, embryonic manipulation is both, fraught with doubts and full of hope. The situation calls for bioethics as a tool to provide moral guidance for science and the applications from stem-cell research. Embryonic manipulation can only survive if issues are constantly addressed, not only through a scientific approach but also through a societal one. If the federal constitution is to be obeyed, human dignity must be valued. Bioethics is paramount for this goal to be reached.
