This study presents the results of a qualitative research whose goal was to know the process of implanting buccal health in the municipality of Feira de Santana located in the semi-arid region of Bahia, analyzing the knowledge and practices that guide the work process in the micro politics of the Buccal Health Teams (ESB) that operate in the Family Health Program (PSF). The empirical material was obtained through a semi-structured interview with health managers of the municipality and surgeon-dentists that work in the ESB at the PSF. The methodology that was used in the analysis was the one of thematic contents. The study showed that there exists the difficulty of access to the buccal health service, a disproportion between the buccal health teams related to the family health teams and the demographic size of the municipality with a large repressed demand not allowing equity and completeness of assistance. The authors suggest an enlargement of the ESB so to render this work more effective and thus more decisive and also offer a better quality of life to the population.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
