Trends of infantil mortality in the State of the Espírito Santo, Brazil, from 1979 to 2004.
Abstract
Introduction. The infant mortality rate is used as an indicator of the quality of life of nations, the organization of health services and assistance and Brazil is observed a tendency to fall this indicator. Goal. Identifying trends in infant mortality in the series of historic coefficients of infant mortality and its components in the State of the Holy Spirit in the period from 1979 to 2004. Material and Methods. This is a serious historical study the data source contains the database-SIM, IBGE and SINASC. The analysis of trends represent is straight calculations of linear regression to the coefficient of infant mortality and their components by the program SPSS, version 12.0 and the program EXCELL. Results. The trends of the coefficient of infant mortality and their components in the State of the Holy Spirit are decreasing and statistically significant (p <0.0001). The component post - neonatal presented with the highest rate of neonatal and fall as the most contributes to infant mortality due to the high number of early neonatal deaths.
