VIOLENCE INTERFACE AFTER AGED PEOPLE INSTITUTIONALIZATION
Keywords:
idoso, violência, institucionalização.Abstract
The objective of this survey was analyzing the discourse of aged subjects about the types of violence suffered by them, which led them to join a home, as well as identify their views on violence. Under a qualitative approach, the survey was made in an elderly care home in Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil, with the participation of 13 aged subjects living in that institution. Data were collected from semi-structured interviews and then analyzed under the Discourse of Collective Subject (DCS) technique. Results showed the following core aspects: (a) conception of violence, (b) violence suffered, and (c) abandon and lack of option. DCS showed the violence interface with cultural and social aspects involving the old age. The violence typology most mentioned by the elderly was physical and sexual violence and financial abuse. Institutionalization derived from abandon by family members, gaps in social co-responsibility, and ineffective health care and citizenship policies for the elderly. In this sense, it is necessary to discuss the elderly role in post-modern society as a political, economic and social player, and enforce the provisions of health care policies for the elderly. Key words: Elderly; Violence; InstitutionalizationDownloads
