Abstract

We carried out a systematic literature review, with the objective of understanding the general panorama of Brazilian research on the theme "Psychology and Spirituality", highlighting: the concept of spirituality and its main associations; the main theoretical frameworks; and the methodologies and instruments that supported the research. We found that the psychological study on spirituality appears directly associated with religion and religiosity and has developed as a branch of Psychology of Religion; that research in general reproduces a model based on classical science and; that the concepts of spirit and spirituality need further clarification. We also point out the critique of phenomenology to science and scientific psychology, as a provocation for new research.
