The aim of this article is to demonstrate how pastor Jacqueline Chanel, a trans woman, was represented on religious and non-religious news portals that publicized the launch of the first trans church in Brazil, Sephora, in May 2021, founded and led by her. As a result, the religious websites used the term pastor with the use of the linguistic resource "quotation marks". Thus, we sought to understand how the Sociology of Deviance (Becker, 2008) fits in with the news broadcast on these portals, demonstrating an ideology of trans representation considered deviant from traditional Christian molds. We also show that quotation marks can be used in argumentative strategies that influence the interlocutor in their way of seeing, thinking and feeling.

Umbanda is a hybrid religion that combines elements from different sources and is mainly characterized by its colorful palette of spirits, among which Exu and his female counterpart: Pombagira stand out. The relationship between Pombagira and Umbanda necessarily involves its unmistakable association with the feminine as something dangerous, free and that does not lend itself to social conventions. However, the plasticity of Pombagira cannot be restricted. During a visit to the Centro Espírita Estrela Guia (Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro/RJ), the head of the house, Pombagira Dona Figueira, showed her maternal side in an interview, subverting the most ordinary expectations about the imaginary of Pombagira. This article reflects on the notion of Pombagira in Umbanda and Quimbanda, following the revelations of Dona Figueira, which are surprisingly and complexly intertwined with Catholic elements, witchcraft and Brazilianness.

The figure of the "evangelical drug trafficker" in Rio de Janeiro is a complex and controversial phenomenon that has attracted the attention of the media and researchers. This figure, which seems to bring together seemingly antipodal concepts - evangelical religion and drug trafficking - raises questions about the intersection of faith, crime, and the social reality of Rio's favelas. The figure of the "evangelical drug trafficker," although controversial, demands careful and unbiased analysis. Understanding this complex phenomenon contributes to a broader debate about the relationship between faith, violence, and social inequality in Brazil.

In light of a conservative perspective

Brazilian Spiritism, when introduced in the 19th century, was widely considered a progressive and emancipatory proposal. Based on the ideas of Allan Kardec, Spiritism aimed to reconcile science, philosophy, and religion, promoting the moral and intellectual progress of humanity. However, over time, it has been observed that many segments of the Spiritist movement in Brazil began to adopt more conservative positions, especially regarding social and political changes. The purpose of this study is to investigate the motivations and influences that support this shift between the progressive Spiritism of The Spirits' Book and its conservative adaptation in Brazil. The central question we seek to understand is how and why this duality manifests. To this end, we employ a methodology based on a bibliographic survey in media networks, prioritizing relevant speeches and studies, as well as a systematic consultation of specialized references. An important conclusion of this work is the identification of a conservative trend in the practice of Spiritist values, which adjusts the Kardecian discourse, shifting the focus from everyday social and civic transformation to a future spiritual evolution, thereby legitimizing the preservation of structures and values considered essential for social stability in the present.

As Diretrizes Curriculares Nacionais (DCNs) para as Licenciaturas em Ciências da Religião: impactos e efeitos na contratação de docentes para o Ensino Religioso escolar na rede pública municipal da microrregião de Juiz de Fora- MG

O cerne deste estudo é o acompanhamento da adaptação dos certames municipais realizados a partir da homologação da Resolução CNE/CP 5/2018 na microrregião de Juiz de Fora. O estudo se concentrou em abordar e distinguir brevemente a trajetória do Ensino Religioso e da Ciência da Religião no Brasil nas esferas legislativas e educacionais, direcionando para a criação dos cursos de Licenciatura em Ciência(as) da(s) Religião(ões). Aponta-se para a adoção da CRE como ciência de referência para o ER designada de “educacionalização da CRE”. A hipótese e a conclusão foram que os concursos e contratações de professores/as nos municípios estão em processo de adequação ao disposto na resolução. A metodologia se concentrou em uma análise discursiva dos editais disponibilizados nos sites das prefeituras entre 2018 e 2024. O material coletado foi agrupado em: concursos públicos; processos seletivos; processos seletivos simplificados, e apresentados em seções no artigo. Predominantemente, foram registradas contratações temporárias conforme apresentado na tabela em anexo. Foi identificado que a ausência de um consenso na adoção da nomenclatura da formação docente impactou na classificação de alguns municípios. Desse modo, conclui-se que dentre os municípios: 8 estão adequados; 1 o resultado é inconclusivo; 5 se encontram em processo de adequação; 1 foi considerado como não adequado. Nos 18 municípios restantes, não foram identificadas realização de certames, ficando inconclusiva a informação do oferecimento do componente curricular ER nas escolas municipais.

Ensino Religioso no Amazonas – Estado da Arte

O artigo trata-se de um trabalho na perspectiva chamada estado da arte (EA) a respeito do Ensino Religioso no Amazonas. Pesquisas de EA intencionam conhecer de maneira panorâmica o que se tem discutido a respeito de um assunto levantando material bibliográfico sobre determinada temática, no contexto dessa produção as obras selecionadas foram aquelas encontradas digitalmente em sites especializados. Ressalta-se que em trabalhos de EA conhecer significa que não basta saber da existência de textos científicos e catalogar, é necessário analisar para identificar as preocupações dos autores descobertos dentro desse recorte temático, de modo que ao final da investigação proposta por esse artigo seja possível obter dados relacionados as características dos estudos, os interesses recorrentes e também apontar as fragilidades da área. A conclusão desse trabalho aponta que temas como currículo, legislação educacional e o Ensino Religioso, relatos de experiência e formação de professores são recorrentes, bem como reconhece que o recorte temático “Ensino Religioso no Amazonas” é incipiente e recente, haja vista que foram publicadas nos últimos 10 anos.

Religion and spirituality: their impacts on patients in palliative care: an integrative review

Chronic diseases are undergoing a process of increase on a global scale, which makes it necessary to implement a care model that contemplates the entire process of illness, death and dying. From this perspective, palliative care is part of an emerging modality of comprehensive and multidisciplinary care, including the spirituality of patients with advanced and terminal illnesses. Our objective is to present a literature review designed to identify the impact of religion and spirituality on the follow-up of patients in palliative care. As a methodology, we conducted an Integrative Bibliographic Review of scientific articles published in the main current databases – PubMed, Scielo and Virtual Health Library (VHL). The inclusion criteria were works published in the last ten years (between 2013 and 2023). The study universe consisted of 376 articles related to the topic addressed, of which 15 were included in the sample because they met the inclusion criteria. As a result, we noticed that the analyzed studies pointed to the understanding that in the case of patients in palliative care, these tools are configured as a way for these individuals to deal with terminality, without anguish, reducing the suffering and pain caused by incurable diseases.

Questões históricas e introdutórias acerca da característica do Evangelho de Tomé de Nag Hammadi

The opening of non-canonical sources was one of the major theological changes occurred during the 20^th Century, involving more specifically minority groups. During a certain period of the modern history, the studies focused on the indirect sources, especially those found in the Fathers of the Church. However, more recently, as codicology as archaeology has brought new contributions to the area. Innumerous are the non-canonical sources, including some discovered during the 18^th Century. In addition to such sources, in the mid-20^th Century, a collection was found near the village of Nag Hammadi. In this context, this article intends to analyze the Thomas’ Gospel, as part of that collection.

As crenças nórdicas pré-cristãs: aspectos gerais e conceituais

Este artigo propõem uma breve compreensão dos povos nórdicos em seu contexto social, cultural e espacial. Entre as premissas apresentadas será englobado especialmente a Era Viking, período este, desenvolvido entre o século VIII ao XI. Entretanto o recorte principal está pautado no século XIII devido a datação das Eddas. Nesse recorte sincrônico, descreveremos as principais atividades vividas entre os povos pré-cristãos em que refletem elementos de mudanças político-sociais significativas até as interações cotidianas entre os povos cristãos, suas percepções ideológicas, as manifestações políticas vivenciadas e até mesmo como o espaço era ocupado por eles. Para tanto, o artigo enfoca a compreensão dos mitos pelos nórdicos, quais seus significados e símbolos, quais as divindades eram cultuadas, além de descrever como as fontes primárias estão interligadas à maneira a qual os nórdicos expressavam suas crenças antigas: na sua forma inicial (mítica), ou seja, a forma de dramatização do sagrado nórdico.

Fundamento e Linguagem

Qual o fundamento da linguagem? Partindo desta questão, Agostinho em sua obra De Magistro e Agambem em seu seminário sobre A linguagem e a morte tentam articular uma resposta. Enquanto Agostinho se mantém num argumento teológico e aponta este fundamento no Mestre, o próprio Deus que sustenta a linguagem; Agamben articula uma reflexão heideggeriana para pensar a ausência de fundamento da linguagem e a manutenção da sua pendência. Embora os autores estejam em tempos tão distantes e filosofam de forma diferente entre si, ambos estão pensando sobre o mesmo problema e este é o fio condutor deste artigo. Para concentrar a objetividade da discussão, utilizamos os textos apresentados de Agostinho e Agamben e da hermenêutica filosófica para o desenvolvimento do debate.

The “return” of religion in Brazil and post-metaphysical spirituality from the perspective of Gianni Vattimo

This article proposes a reflection on the interaction between politics, religion and society in the Brazilian context, based on the post-metaphysical and secularization perspective of the Italian philosopher Gianni Vattimo. Through his approach and hermeneutics, we aim to understand the impact of secularization on religious dynamics and its consequences, especially in its relationship with the political landscape marked by polarization, which sometimes fosters openings for manifestations of violence. We will also explore how post-metaphysical spirituality, according to Vattimo, can provide valuable insights for interpreting the future of religion and its interactions with society and the state. This study is based on the philosopher’s key works and relevant contributions from commentators, adopting a methodological approach that privileges qualitative and hermeneutical interpretation. The literature review will encompass a critical analysis of Vattimo’s main works, contextualizing his ideas within the Brazilian sociopolitical panorama. The goal is to offer a thorough and contextually grounded analysis, promoting a more comprehensive understanding of the complex interactions between politics, religious diversity, and narratives of violence and sexuality in contemporary Brazil.

Caminhos Hermenêuticos de Dioniso

This article proposes a hermeneutic analysis of the symbols associated with the god Dionysus in ancient Greek religion, examining how these symbols are interpreted in both empirical and theoretical contexts. By utilizing the hermeneutic approaches of Paul Ricoeur and Martin Heidegger, as suggested by the dossier, it is possible to explore how Dionysian symbols, including rituals, myths, and artistic representations, serve as means to access and construct religious and ontological meanings. The methodology involves analyzing ancient texts such as The Bacchae and Orphic hymns, along with contemporary studies by authors like Marcel Detienne and Walter Burkert. The results show that the symbolism of Dionysus is multifaceted and reflects various tensions and complexities of Greek spirituality. This study highlights the importance of a hermeneutic approach to uncover the layers of meaning that these symbols carry, inviting readers to reconsider how we interpret deities and their representations within the cultural and religious context of ancient Greece.

Old priests and new priests: the political hermeneutics of two generations

This article aims to comparatively analyze the discourses of two generations of priests in contemporary Brazil, the called 'old priests' and 'new priests'. Based on studies about the reality of new priests in Brazil (Brighentti, 2021), we have inserted the category of 'old priests', with the aim of promoting a hermeneutic analysis of suspicion of the political debate by catholic agents. The first group, called old priests, is linked to the adoption of theological perspectives linked to social development and the defense of the oppressed (Liberation Theology - TL), revealing a rapprochement with political progressivism. The second group, on the other hand, has received media attention for its alignment with conservative moral and political discourses, often influenced by evangelical churches and the Catholic Charismatic Renewal (CCR). Based on a critical analysis of the discourses exposed, this article explores how historical and theological currents shape the hermeneutics of religion, as well as the influence on the popular conception of catholicism. In this way, this work contributes to a greater understanding of the internal tensions within the Catholic Church and their impact on Brazil's political reality, especially with regard to the role of religious leaders in the public debate (through ideological influence).

Pesquisa bíblica na Ciência da Religião: métodos e possibilidades

A História das Religiões, enquanto um dos fundamentos da Ciência da Religião, partiu da histórica eclesiástica e dos estudos bíblicos para se constituir como disciplina diversificada em abordagens e perspectivas de análise, especialmente no século XIX. Considerando a consolidação do campo de estudos da religião no Brasil, parece-nos importante um olhar que reconheça essa trajetória e seus desdobramentos na atualidade, visto que o legado da abordagem histórico-crítica da literatura bíblica está na base de outras abordagens mais recentes, ainda que com limitações reconhecidas. Dentre o conjunto de abordagens que vieram após o método histórico-crítico, destacam-se o método de exegese indiciário e a análise narrativa. O primeiro busca por meio da análise dos indícios presentes no texto pesquisado chegar ao entendimento das intenções históricas, sociais, ideológicas e religiosas do(a) autor(a) do texto no momento em que ele foi escrito. A análise narrativa ou narratologia, por sua vez, se orienta prioritariamente pelo(a) leitor(a), considera o efeito da narrativa sobre ele(ela) e a maneira como o texto o(a) faz cooperar no deciframento do sentido. O objetivo desse texto é descrever a aplicabilidade desses métodos e sua importância em meio às pesquisas bíblicas atuais.
