Abstract

The aim of the study is to examine the effect of organizational cynicism on job satisfaction of employees in tourism public organizations. Organizational cynicism which is the individuals' belief that organizations are deprived of moral unity and that the principles of equity, honesty and sincerity are sacrificed in favor of organizational interests, can affect the job satisfaction of employees. This study contributes to limited empirical research by investigating the impacts of organizational cynicism and its dimensions on job satisfaction of tourism public organizations’ employees where effectively managed human resources have importance as much as in private enterprises. Using Mugla Province of Turkey as the research site, 222 responses are gathered via a questionnaire in 2018. Regression results indicate that except behavioral cynicism, dimensions of organizational cynicism have negative and significant impacts on job satisfaction. Cognitive cynicism was found to have the largest effect size followed by emotional affective cynicism on job satisfaction. Additionally, differences in organizational cynicism by some demographical and occupational features of employees were examined in the study. The study concludes with discussion of managerial implications and limitations.
