Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration and the Originality Statement has been signed by the authors and will be attached along with the submission documents.
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format and are formatted according to the Template provided.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • The instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
  • ATTENTION! The Submission Preparation Checklist itens are essential for the text to start the editorial evaluation process. If they are not fulfilled, the manuscript will be immediately returned to the author.
    Check to continue the process or return when you have completed all items.

Please be advised that the ABET journal will be closed to new submissions from November 1, 2023 to January 1, 2024, for system updates and internal reorganization. These procedures do not affect papers already registered in the system. New submissions can be sent from January 2, 2024. We appreciate your attention and understanding.

GUIDELINES FOR AUTHORS

 

1. GENNERAL PROCESS

ABET uses the double-blind peer review which is the omission of the identities of authors on the and reviewers on the original paper’s process of reviewing. Thus, authors must follow some steps to ensure this process:

Submit ONLY ONE archive of the text (microsoft word editor 2003 or newer version, in rtf or doc) without direct or indirect identification of authorship (manuscript). ALL THE PERSONAL INFORMATION about the author(s) (names, affiliations, affiliated institution’s country, complete mailing address, phone number, email and a biographical data of the author(s) not exceeding 60 words) will be inserted in the website system. Maybe, if there is any necessity, the author(s) could submit an additional document (generally with specific information about the paper (e.g. excel tables or SPSS data).

To ensure any possible identification of authorship in the manuscript, you must:

  • Use third person to refer to previously published works by the authors of the text. Example: replace "as we analyzed in the study" by "as was analyzed in the study. (Anonymous, 2009).
  • Remove any copyright of affiliation.
  • Quoting published articles by the author of the text as follows: "(anonymous, 2009).
  • For blinding in the reference list enter "(anonymous, 2009). Details omitted by double-blind reviewing. "
  • Remove thanks
  • Remove copyright information in the document properties.

 

2. MANUSCRIPT

Languages: the manuscript can be write in Portuguese or English or Spanish or French.

Typography: The manuscript should be prepared with simple line spacing, font Arial Narrow, size 11, paginated with 3 cm margins on the left and top and 2 cm to the right and bottom, in A4 paper. Direct citations should use the 10 source and notes must have the same font, size 9. Do not use fonts or different sizes in the text. If you want to highlight any word or paragraph, use the same font in cursive (italic).

Abstract: The article should come accompanied by an abstract in the original language; write in 150-250 words, always translated to the English and Portuguese whatever would be the original language. abstract in the vernacular language and foreign language (150 to 250 words), the internal divisions that consider necessary (usually, introduction, theoretical framework, methodology, results and discussion, conclusion), acknowledgements (if applicable) and references

Keywords: the text must contain between three and five keywords on the main theme of the paper and separated themselves by a dot.

Title: should be write in the original language and as well the abstract always translated to the English and Portuguese whatever would be the original language.

Text: the text must possess an extension between 5,000 and 9,000 words to articles; and 3,000 to 5,000 for reflexive opinions (pensatas) and essays; and between 2,000 to 3,000 for research notes as well to book reviews.

Illustrations: illustrations (tables, graphs, diagrams, flowcharts, organization charts, engravings, photographs and other) and tables should be inserted in the text. All must have subtitles-title and source. Tables should follow the Tabular Presentation rules of the IBGE. Can use color images, while you should evaluate the possibility of using it in paper format, in black and white so that it is readable in the case of the print edition.

Abbreviations and acronyms: Should be defined clearly in its first use in the text.

Citations and reference: the references, as well as the citations in the body of the text should follow the standards of the Brazilian Association of technical norms NBR 6023 (https://goo.gl/GxCBgZ) and NBR 10520 (https://goo.gl/hKumna ).

Notes: the explanatory notes should be use only if they are essential, and should be at the end of the text of the article, using the same font (Arial Narrow) in size 9.

3. CONDITIONS FOR SUBMISSION

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check the conformity of the submission for all items listed below. Submissions that are not in accordance with the standards will be returned to the authors.

Thus, aligned with best practices, nationally and internationally, ABET requires compliance with the following criteria for regular publication* of papers:

1. The manuscript submitted should be an original and unprecedented contribution bolstered by some thematic line inserted in the scope of the journal. Otherwise, you must justify in "Comments to the Editor."

2. The article must not have been previously published in any journal or book. We accept, however, papers presented at congresses.

3. The text cannot be under evaluation at the same time in another journal, whether national or international.

4. The papers can have a maximum of 3 (three) co-authors, besides the main author, totaling so a maximum of 4 (four) persons per manuscript.

5. ABET reserves the right to postpone the edition or volume (year) subsequent an article approved, if the authors or co-authors of the same institution have already published some article in the current year, in order to not exceed 20% of papers from the same institution (concentration index), thereby ensuring the fulfillment of national criteria (and recommendations international) journals assessment.

6. Similarly, in order to avoid concentration authorship, ABET publish only 1 text from one author per year. If the author has another manuscript approved, it will be postponed to the following year.

7. ABET will not publish articles in which the editor in chief and/or associate editors are listed as authors or co-authors.

8. ABET may publish manuscripts of authors or co-authors of the Editorial Board, of members of the Scientific Editorial Board and people from Federal University of Juiz de Fora if, and only if, they are not involved in the process of evaluating the article.

9. In order to avoid institutional endogeny articles from UFJF authorship will be published, in a maximum of 20% (4.8 items per year).

10. Even if all the other requirements are accomplished, the papers will only be accepted on desk review, and then to proceed in the editorial process, the manuscripts that are free from identification of the authorship. This kind of identification must be removed from the archive via the option “Properties in Word", guaranteeing in this way the confidentiality criteria of the journal, in order to Ensuring the Blind Peer Review since the manuscripts are submitted to double blind peer review process (e.g. articles). ATTENTION! This condition is essential for the text to start the editorial process of evaluation. If you do not fulfill this requirement, the manuscript will be returned to the author.

11. All the information on the authorship must be filled directly in the system, in the “metadata section”.

12. The files for submission must be in Microsoft Word, Open Office or RTF (as long as you don't exceed 2 MB). Articles which, perhaps, exceed this size can be sent directly via email to the magazine: abet.ufjf@gmail.com.

13. The text must be write in a single-spaced; uses an arial narrow font of 11-points; employs italics instead of underlining (except in URL addresses); the figures and tables must be included in the text, not at the end of the document, such as attachments.

14. The text should use the Brazilian system of citations and references, as stated by the Brazilian Association of technical standards ABNT (6023 standard). Full details of the style patterns and bibliographic requirements are described in Guidelines to Authors, in the section About the magazine. ATTENTION! This condition is essential to start the text editorial process of evaluation. If you do not fulfill this requirement, the manuscript will be returned to the author.

15. All addresses "URL" must be on active status.

16. Articles must meet all the proceedings of the editorial process (cf. Evaluation Policy).

17. Authors must agree to the following terms relating to copyrights:
(a) Authors keep all copyright and grant the to the journal the right of first publication, with the work simultaneously licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution License that allowing job sharing with recognition of authorship of the work and initial publication in this journal.

(b) Authors are allowed to assume additional contracts separately, for non-exclusive distribution of the version of the work published in this journal (e.g. publish in institutional repository or book chapter), with recognition of authorship and initial publication in this magazine.
(c) Authors are allowed and are encouraged to publish and distribute their work online (e.g. in institutional repositories or on your personal page) since they do not do this before or during the editorial process, as this can generate productive interchange, as well as increase the impact and citation of work aired.
